We had a mostly enjoyable month in the Sooner State. I say mostly because the bitter temps during some of our stay left us longing to bask in front of a warm fire and be able to feel our fingers again. Brian was away helping with family for much of our time in OKC. In retrospect, this might not have been so unfortunate for Brian as he avoided the nightly low temps in the teens and the appearance of several days of snow, which is in direct violation of our life plan. Being so far north for Championships, however, has left us encountering some colder autumn temps as we’ve slogged south.

While Brian was away, Tracey and the pups did lots of agility training, two local trials, and some rally obedience run thrus. In two weekends, Brooks managed 16 qualifying runs and finished six titles. Crosby even got to run for the first time since his stroke 18 months earlier. Lots of hard work with Beezer might be starting to pay off, as we discovered a distraction-free zone in her brain that resulted in one (and only one) beautiful run.
We’d like to return to Oklahoma City so we have more time to explore together. Next time we’ll be sure to schedule it for a time of year that doesn’t force us to survive on hand warmers and sheer determination.
What We Did:
Oklahoma City Memorial Museum – This museum, honoring those who lost their lives in the April 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, was one of the best we’ve visited. The self guided tour takes a few hours to complete and there is an optional AR experience using their mobile app. It has a great flow, with exhibits laid out chronologically.
Where We Stayed:
Oklahoma City East KOA, conveniently located right off I-40, close to Tinker AFB. Dog park was huge but had a lot of erosion and mostly dead leaves for ground cover so it turned into a heavily sloped mud pit after it rained.
Where We Ate:
Magic Noodle
Nashbird
Baked Bear
The Bootlegger
Tatsumaki Ramen
Metro Wine Bar and Bistro
Musashi’s
Pho Lan
